The Albanese Government signed contracts worth up to $7 billion with Hanwha Defense Australia, a South Korean arms company, to manufacture 129 Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicles for the Australian Army.

Elbit Systems, Israel's largest privately-owned arms company, has been awarded a $917 million contract to supply Hanwha Defense Australia with systems for the Fighting Vehicles. This deepening of the two-way military trade between Australia and Israel strengthens both countries' military goals to dominate their regions.

Elbit Systems is the largest supplier of weapons for the Israeli occupation forces. In Palestine, it provides Israel with equipment for its apartheid Wall in the West Bank and other weapons, particularly killer drones, used for war crimes in the attacks on Gaza and Lebanon. Elbit has a history of developing illegal weapons including white phosphorus and cluster bombs that continue to be illegally used in Palestine today.

Elbit systems also supplies weapons to the Myanmar Junta to attack the Rohingya and the Indonesian military to oppress the West Papuan population, among many others.

In addition to Elbit Systems, many other weapons manufacturing companies are also expected to partner with Hanwha Defense Australia to build the Fighting Vehicles at Hanwha’s Avalon site.
